At Olam Cocoa, they’re looking for a R&D Cocoa Butter (CCB) Technology Manager based at the R&D facilities in Koog aan de Zaan, the Netherlands. In this global role, you will be responsible for developing and executing research and innovation projects with CCB. Your expertise in research will allow you to manage projects from concept to industrial scale in close collaboration with research institutes, technical universities and machine suppliers for the food processing industry. Your passion to find scalable innovative solutions helps Olam to maintain their global leadership in Cocoa Ingredients.

The responsibilities you will have as R&D CCB Technology Manager:

  • With your MSc or PhD in Oils & Fats you play a key role in setting the future of value driven manufacturing of CCB at Olam. You have the drive to find the best solution for complex technical questions
  • Together with several stakeholders, you design and lead R&D CCB projects as a team or individual, which starts with idea generation and finishes with the successful implementation in our factories including possible IP/patents
  • You have or built a network with institutes and suppliers who are at the forefront of food manufacturing. You are or become a respected partner with internal stake holders and external partners to discuss projects in (technical) detail CCB with clear objectives and time lines
  • You share your enthusiasm by actively presenting the progress in a fact-based manner and understand that quality and speed are key to successfully introducing CCB innovation
  • You provide support based on solid technical and scientific information which secures timely decision making and successful implementation
  • Your analytical knowledge and capabilities are at expertise level developing and evaluating methodologies and specifications for CCB
  • You collaborate with Application Centers and Plant Science testing the performance of new CCB ingredients in consumable products as well as defining gaps or improvements in the current ingredient portfolio
  • You have the passion to inspire your team members, finding the best solution for complex questions. You take ownership to improve the performance in project execution and the success rate of new CCB developments through facts and figures
  • You lead or participate in sessions with other R&D and application centers to share knowledge, capabilities and success stories. Besides you feel comfortable to share your vision and achievements by presenting and inspiring at all levels in the Olam Cocoa organisation
  • This position reports into the Global R&D Manager for Olam Cocoa and requires occasional global travelling

Requirements

The ideal candidate profile looks the following:

  • A MSc or PhD degree in Food Chemistry or Technology with a specialisation Food Oils and Fats or other relevant fields
  • At least 7-10 years research experience with food oils, fats and preferably their applications. Affinity for analytical methods used within fats and oils industry (i.e. NMR, DSC, etc.)
  • Significant experience in experimental design, analysis of complex data sets. And capable of translating complex scientific data into easy, simple to grasp materials
  • Strategically minded, capable to integrate inputs from multiple stakeholders and experts
  • Your knowledge and capabilities in (food) manufacturing technology and your interest in Industry 4.0 is a given
  • You combine your creativity with the drive to make it happen. Your own idea box is always full. The passion of trying innovative manufacturing technologies is a natural habit
  • Having a positive and can-do mind set. Understands that it takes time, intelligence and energy to seek, convince and implement beyond the standard solution
  • Is self-motivating but also inspires the team to go the extra mile. Triggers in depth research which is required for fact-based decisions. You can value the ideas in line with the growth aspirations of the company
  • Is willing to work abroad for a short or extended time
  • Has good communication, presentation and social skills. Is proficient in spoken and written English. Fun to work with
