Vacancy Operations Manager – Enkhuizen


For Enza Zaden in Enkhuizen, we are looking for an Operations Manager. Enza Zaden is a vegetable breeding company. This means that they develop vegetable varieties in more than 30 international and local crops. The total range contains about 1,200 vegetable varieties. From bell pepper, tomato, cucumber and lettuce to bitter gourd and bird’s eyes chillies. They strive for innovation. As a result, Enza is targeting 100 new vegetable varieties on the world market every year. Enza produces and sells the seeds all over the world. The purpose of their work? To offer everyone worldwide access to healthy and varied vegetables. With more than 2.000 passionate colleagues all over the world, they work together every day on the vegetables of tomorrow.


As the Operations Manager, internally Seed Processing Manager, you have a passion for building teams. You are trusted with the overall management of the processing activities of our main Seed Processing facility in Enkhuizen. The Enkhuizen processing facility plays a key role in the supply and delivery of our seeds to our global customers and you and your team (75 employees) take care to do this in a safe manner, with the right quality and quantity, on time and with the right cost structure.

As a connector and strong leader, you motivate and coach your team leaders, and develop them to reach a higher level of operational performance. As Operations Manager, you like to spend time on the floor to connect, learn, coach and lead by example and you get excited by leading the operational side (planning, execution, coordination and monitoring of seed processing activities).

Using your operational experience, you will partner with and lead the team leaders, operators and the supporting organisations to improve the skills and capabilities of the organisation and create a culture of continuous improvement. Together with your team, you develop and implement the vision, goals and plans for the Enkhuizen processing facility, you create team spirit and energy and you facilitate the team in the process.

You will use your technical and system knowledge to develop and implement structural improvement plans including standardisation of work processes, strategies for automation of manual labour, process control improvements, data management and upscaling strategies for new technologies. You are also responsible for ensuring optimal service and maintenance of facilities. In cooperation with the HSE and Quality Specialists, you are also responsible for a healthy and safe working environment, the delivery of optimal product quality and compliance to local regulations. Together with your team and stakeholders, you create and implement the roadmap for the Enkhuizen processing facility.

You participate in leadership teams and reviews and cross-functional teams and you will also take on the role of project manager and sparring partner for specific identified projects.


The ideal candidate has strong communications and leadership skills. This will help you to build solid relations between all colleagues. You are a natural communicator and connector who can work independently, but you are also able to work in cross-functional teams.

You are a hands-on manager that knows how to guide the implementation of innovations. Thanks to your experience and analytical skills you recognise opportunities, make an impact, and can work independently. You are a dynamic person who takes initiative, recognises opportunities, and has a creative, analytical, and systematic method of working. You are technical-minded and interested in working in a precision environment within the seed sector. You are organised and follow safety procedures. Preferably you have a horticulture background, and have developed skills in planning, organisation, and management.

In short, you:

  • Have a Bachelor’s or Masters degree in a technical or related area
  • Have a minimum of 6 years relevant work experience including direct operational leadership of a sizable team
  • Have proven experience in operational excellence principles and practices
  • Have proven success of complex processing activities within an industrial environment
  • Have experience in facility management, budget management, and safety
